250,000 people were displaced in a week in Gaza, says OCHA

An estimated 250,000 people in Gaza have been displaced since July 22, following recent Israeli evacuation orders, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said. This represents more than 11 percent of Gaza's population, OCHA said in a statement, noting that 90 percent of the population has been displaced multiple times since last October. OCHA expressed concern about the impact of repeated eviction orders on civilians in Gaza, explaining that families are often forced to relocate under fire with only what they can carry, forced to start over in areas that lack basic services, and have to find new sources of water, food, and health care. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) warned of the collapse of Gaza's solid waste management system, adding that waste is piling up in more than 140 temporary sites, posing environmental and health risks to the population.
