3.2-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Khenchela, Northeastern Algeria

An earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale struck Khenchela, northeastern Algeria, Friday without recording any human or material losses. The Algerian Center for Research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics, in a statement, identified the epicenter of the earthquake as 5 kilometers south of the "Bouhamama" area in Khenchela. It is noteworthy that Algeria is exposed, from time to time, to earthquakes and tremors, the most violent of which was the earthquake that struck Boumerdes, northern Algeria, in May 2003, when its magnitude reached 6.8 degrees, causing the death of 2,277 people, in addition to significant material losses and massive destruction in the region.
