5.6-magnitude quake strikes off coast of Taiwan


TAIPEI: A magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan on Sunday morning, with no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported that the epicenter of the tremor was situated in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 55.9 kilometres southeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 30 kilometres.

Following the quake, a smaller magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred in waters about 23.8 kilometers northeast of Hualien County Hall, as per the agency’s data.
