Santiago: A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck near the coast of central Chile at 02:34 GMT on Sunday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said.
According to Emirates News Agency, the epicentre of the earthquake was located at a depth of 10 kilometres. It was initially determined at the coordinates 37.70 degrees south latitude and 73.19 degrees west longitude. The shallow depth of the earthquake may have implications for the extent of its impact along the central Chilean coast.
Authorities are likely monitoring the situation closely to assess any potential damage or aftershocks resulting from this seismic event.
