New york: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will lead the United Arab Emirates’ delegation at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80) in New York from 22nd to 29th September, 2025. The UAE delegation will engage with member states, UN officials, and relevant partners to discuss shared solutions to global challenges and strengthen collective action, especially regarding threats to international peace and security.
According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE’s priorities at this session include reforming the United Nations for enhanced efficiency, advancing humanitarian action, conflict resolution, and peaceful coexistence. The delegation will also champion women’s empowerment in international peace and security, sustainable development, and international collaboration to address climate change and water-related challenges.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the importance of international cooperation in delivering lasting solutions to current challenges, reiterating the UAE’s commitment to building a more peaceful, sustainable, and inclusive world. He reaffirmed the UAE’s alignment with the objectives of the UN80 Initiative, highlighting its dedication to supporting an effective United Nations that fulfills its core purposes under the UN Charter.
The UAE delegation will participate in various high-level meetings, such as the Two-State Solution Conference, the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit, the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the UN’s founding, the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, and the launch of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance.
Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, stated that the UAE’s priorities at this session are guided by a vision that effective multilateralism is essential for addressing interconnected global crises. He emphasized the importance of the UN General Assembly as a platform to address threats to international peace and security and challenges hindering Sustainable Development Goals progress.
The UAE delegation to UNGA80 includes notable figures such as Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President; Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change; and several other ministers and state representatives.
