Abu Dhabi: The number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Abu Dhabi has seen an 81 percent increase between 2022 and 2023, bringing the total to 10,013 EVs and 11,139 hybrid vehicles registered by the end of March 2024. Abdulla Alhashmi, Acting Director of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Sector at the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), made this announcement, highlighting the emirate's progress in sustainable transportation.
According to Emirates News Agency, Alhashmi also mentioned that the emirate now boasts 313 public charging stations, distributed across various areas, with more expansion planned in collaboration with the private sector. This development is part of Abu Dhabi's broader strategy to accommodate the growing number of electric vehicles while promoting eco-friendly transport solutions.
Alhashmi stated that the Integrated Transport Centre is actively participating in the Electric Vehicle Innovation Summit (EVIS) 2025. This event is a prominent gathering in the Middle East and North Africa region, attracting experts, decision-makers, and innovators focused on sustainable mobility and electric vehicles. The summit provides a platform for showcasing strategic projects aimed at developing an intelligent transport system that aligns with climate neutrality goals.
He emphasized that Abu Dhabi Mobility's participation in the summit reflects the emirate's dedication to fostering innovation in the electric transport sector. By forming strategic partnerships with leading companies, Abu Dhabi aims to enhance global competitiveness and develop advanced solutions that shape the future of sustainable mobility.
Alhashmi further highlighted Abu Dhabi's aspiration to be a regional leader in smart and sustainable electric mobility solutions. This ambition aligns with the UAE's Net Zero 2025 Strategy, positioning Abu Dhabi as a global leader in sustainable transport solutions.
