Airport Show 2026 to Showcase Newest Biometrics Technology for Seamless, Secure Passenger Experience

Dubai: The 25th edition of the Airport Show 2026, scheduled to take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 12th to 14th October, will spotlight the latest biometric technologies and advanced innovations tailored for travelers.

According to Emirates News Agency, this year's edition will present more than 150 exhibitors from over 30 countries, accompanied by 120 hosted buyers. The event is anticipated to draw more than 7,000 visitors from over 30 countries over the three-day period. The exhibition is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

The show will also feature conferences such as the Global Airport Leaders' Forum (GALF), Airport Security Middle East, Air Traffic Control (ATC) Forum, and Women in Aviation (WIA) Middle East Conference. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with industry stakeholders, explore the latest innovations, and contribute to the growing adoption of advanced technologies in airport facilities across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.

The Middle East region, known for its major international travel hubs, is advancing towards the integration of biometric technologies to ensure seamless airport experiences for travelers, with numbers in the region expected to hit 240 million by 2026. Airports are capitalizing on the demand for long-haul flights, expanding aviation hub capacities, and investing in infrastructure upgrades.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates that biometric identity confirmation can reduce processing times by up to 40%, enhancing operational efficiency and capacity at high-traffic airports. Dubai International Airport, the world's busiest for international passengers since 2014, has introduced the AI-powered 'Red Carpet' smart tunnel to improve processing times.

In the UAE, the aviation sector shows resilience with ongoing developments at the Al Maktoum International Airport, set to commence operations in 2032. The project has reached key milestones, including runway infrastructure and foundational work for passenger terminals.

Majed Al Joker, COO of Dubai Airports, emphasized the focus on improving guest movement through terminals via biometric and digital investments. The future Al Maktoum International Airport aims to enhance Dubai's aviation sector with a traveler-centric ecosystem supported by AI-powered analytics.

Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport has implemented facial recognition-based biometric solutions at several passenger journey points. Emirates Airline, a pioneer in biometrics, has invested AED85 million in facial recognition at Dubai International Airport, while Etihad Airways and flydubai are also integrating biometric technologies.

May Ismail, Event Manager at RX Middle East, highlighted the transformative role of biometrics in airport operations, emphasizing the strategic advantage for handling growing passenger volumes. The Middle East is rapidly adopting biometric technologies to enhance passenger experience and security.

The Airport Show organisers project the biometric technology market will reach $150.58 billion by 2030, with airport biometrics services expected to hit $276.56 billion by 2032. Middle Eastern airports lead in biometric adoption, with countries shifting towards advanced solutions for an optimal travel experience.

According to SITA, 43% of airports globally use biometric-enabled boarding, with more than half planning to implement integrated identity management solutions within three years. By 2027, biometric technology will be utilized at various airport stages, including check-in, baggage drop, boarding, and border control.
