Al Sila: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the 4th edition of the Al Sila Marine Festival is set to take place from December 4th to 8th, 2024, at Al Sila Beach in the Al Dhafra Region, Abu Dhabi. The much-anticipated five-day event is organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, aiming to celebrate and preserve Emirati maritime traditions.
According to Emirates News Agency,the festival will feature an impressive array of 73 traditional and modern marine competitions. Attendees can look forward to a diverse set of events, including the notable Al Sila’ 43-ft Dhow Race and the Al Sila Sheri Fishing contest. Other highlights include the Barakah Traditional Sailboat Race, fly-fishing contests, and various beach and sports races. In addition to marine competitions, participants can engage in Carrom and Dominoes competitions, a cycling race, beach volleyball, and beach soccer, alongside various heritage
competitions and traditional games.
The Al Sila Marine Festival is not only a celebration of sports but also a cultural initiative aimed at preserving the maritime and desert heritage of the UAE. It seeks to showcase Emirati heritage, customs, and traditions, ensuring that these are passed down to younger generations. Furthermore, the festival aims to promote the coastal cities, islands, and marine festivals of the UAE, supporting and encouraging engagement in marine and heritage sports. It also plays a crucial role in driving tourism and economic development in the Al Dhafra Region.
