The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, praised the adoption by the U.N. Human Rights Council of a draft resolution aimed at combating religious hatred that incites discrimination, hostility, or violence.
The GCC Secretary General stated that incidents such as the burning of the Holy Quran by extremists in Sweden and similar events highlight the urgent need for international resolutions to address these despicable acts that promote religious hatred and encourage violence and discrimination.
Albudaiwi stressed that the GCC countries always seek to promote tolerance and mutual understanding between different cultures and religions, and they stress respect for freedom of religious belief as one of the most important foundations of human rights and peaceful coexistence in a way that enables everyone to practice their faith freely without discrimination.
The GCC Secretary General also emphasized that council member states are constantly seeking to promote tolerance and mutual understanding among different cultures and religions, respect the freedom of religious belief as a fundamental human right, and promote peaceful coexistence that allows everyone to practice their faith freely without discrimination. Furthermore, he expressed the GCC countries’ rejection of any violence or action that affects religions and holy books.
