Alia Nassif criticizes the statement of the Gulf Cooperation Council and calls on the government to respond to it

Baghdad, The Deputy of the State of Law Coalition, Alia Nassif, criticized the statement issued by the (Gulf Cooperation Council), which included Iraq’s demand not to violate Kuwait’s sovereignty, and described it as “a statement that is flagrantly biased towards Kuwait and represents the worst form of hypocrisy.”

She said in a statement today that: “At a time when we open our doors to our Arab surroundings and extend bridges of trust and positive relations with the Gulf states, the so-called Gulf Cooperation Council issues this disgraceful statement in which they demand that we respect Kuwait’s sovereignty and not violate international resolutions and agreements, but rather they arrogantly address us to complete the demarcation of the maritime borders beyond mark 162.”

Nassif explained: “The Gulf states deliberately ignore the Kuwaiti attacks on the lands and territorial waters of Iraq and the killing and kidnapping of Iraqi fishermen from time to time. The Gulf states (governments and peoples) know very well that Security Council resolutions in this regard are unfair, and the Iraqi people have paid the price for it.

Nassif stressed, “The need for the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a strong response to this statement and not to compliment any Gulf country at the expense of the sovereignty and dignity of Iraq.”
