Angola in AFCON’s quarter-finals for first time since 2010

ABIDJAN: Angola defeated Namibia 3-0, reaching the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals for the first time since 2010 to face the winner of tonight’s clash between Nigeria and Cameroon on Friday in Abidjan.

Disaster struck for the Palancas Negras in the 17th minute when Neblu was sent off for handling outside the box. But Gelson Dala stepped up, calmly tapping in seven minutes before half-time to put Angola ahead.

Namibia’s hopes faded further when Lubeni Haukongo received a second yellow card shortly after the break. Dala then doubled the lead with a powerful header from Fredy’s free-kick, effectively sealing the Angolan victory.

Mabululu rounded off the scoring midway through the second half with a tidy finish following a swift counter-attack, sending the Angolan fans into raptures.
