Arab league welcomes UN resolution condemning advocacy of religious hatred

The Arab League welcomed Thursday the resolution issued by the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council on "addressing religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence." The pan-Arab organisation said the statement came during the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, held on July 8, 2023, in Geneva regarding "confronting religious hatred," adding that it "reiterates the responsibility of all parties to denounce religious hatred." The spokesman for the Secretary-General, Jamal Rushdi, said Secretary-General Ahman Aboul Gheit had condemned in "the strongest terms" the Swedish authorities' permission to burn a copy of the Qur'an by extremists on the first days of Eid al-Adha.
