Sharjah: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the eighth edition of the "2026 Arab Women Sports Tournament" is poised to commence tomorrow. The event, organized by Sharjah Women Sports, will run from February 2 to February 12, featuring 65 teams from 16 Arab countries competing in nine sports disciplines.
According to Emirates News Agency, the tournament will kick off with an official ceremony at Al Majaz Theatre, followed by competitions that will transform Sharjah's venues into daily arenas of challenge and sportsmanship. The opening ceremony will debut the full version of the new audio identity for the tournament, titled 'Arab Women,' performed by Hussain Al Jassmi. This cultural initiative is supervised by the Sharjah Family and Community Council Media Office.
The competitions will be accessible to audiences via live broadcasts on Sharjah Sports Channel and the 'Maraya' platform of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority. The Sharjah Women Sports has encouraged public attendance to support Arab athletes, with event schedules available on the official tournament website.
Basketball competitions will occur from February 3 to February 11 at Al Bataeh Cultural and Sports Club, featuring seven teams from UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, and Tunisia. Volleyball events will run from February 3 to February 12 at Sharjah Women's Sports Club, with teams from UAE, Kuwait, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq.
Taekwondo, appearing for the first time with G1 international ranking approval, will be held on February 10 and 11 at Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled. Rowing, also making its debut, will take place on February 9 and 10 at Al Hamriyah Beach, with teams from seven countries including UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Fencing, archery, shooting, athletics, and table tennis competitions will be held at various venues across Sharjah, featuring teams from multiple Arab countries. These events aim to enhance athletic competition and foster unity among Arab women's clubs, reflecting Sharjah's commitment to empowering women in sports since the championship's inception in 2012.
