Arab Youth Center Selects Youth Envoys for 2026 UN Water Conference

Abu Dhabi:The Arab Youth Center has selected 100 young leaders from 75 countries for the Global Youth Water Envoys Program. These envoys will contribute to the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, set to take place in Abu Dhabi, co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal.

According to Emirates News Agency, the selected envoys were chosen from over 2,000 applicants and represent diverse fields such as research, public policy, and engineering. During October and November, they will engage in a structured learning journey, which includes foundational training and specialized study connected to the conference's themes.

The announcement was made during a virtual press conference. Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, UAE Minister of State for Youth Affairs, and Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, addressed the participants. Eng. Fatima Al Hallami, Executive Director of the AYC, outlined the program's selection process and learning journey.

The program, initiated during the UN High-Level Political Forum in July 2026, is organized with partners including the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CIFF, WaterAid, and Green Youth Africa Organization. It aims to prepare young people for active participation in global water policy discussions.

Abdulla Balalaa emphasized the importance of this initiative in engaging young leaders in water diplomacy. The cohort includes representatives from regions such as Africa, the Arab States, and Asia, bringing a range of expertise in areas like hydrology and environmental law.

The selection process involved a comprehensive review by an independent committee, ensuring a fair evaluation of applicants. The learning journey will incorporate both live sessions and independent learning resources, with a focus on practical application.

The program's aim is to enhance water governance and investment through scientific evidence and public-private partnerships. Fatima Behzad Afghan from the UAE and Lissong Diop from Senegal are among the envoys contributing their expertise to this initiative.

These efforts will culminate in six thematic youth statements and a Global Youth Water Statement, consolidating the envoys' insights and recommendations for the conference. The program is led by the Arab Youth Center in collaboration with strategic and enabling partners.
