The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has officially included Saudi referee Abdullah Al-Shehri, 31, in the Elite Panel of Asian Referees. This follows Al-Shehri's successful completion of the AFC Academy's rigorous program, graduating with honors after four years of study from 2019 to May 2023, including the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Al-Shehri began his refereeing career in the 2012-2013 season, officiating various youth competitions before progressing to the Saudi Professional League (Roshn Saudi League) in 2018-2019. In August 2023, Al-Shehri passed the AFC's stringent assessments, earning a spot on the Elite Panel of Video Assistant Referees (VAR) for the continent. President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation Yasser Al-Misehal congratulated Al-Shehri on his inclusion in the Elite Panel of Asian Referees, wishing him success in representing Saudi referees with distinction on both the Asian and global stages.
