For the second year in a row, Australia was crowned the champion of the 2023 FIBA U16 Asian Championship hosted by Doha.
The tournament started on September 17 with 16 teams taking part.
Australia won the title after defeating New Zealand (79-76) in the final match that took place at Al Gharafa Indoor Hall on Sunday.
The Qatari U16 basketball team finished seventh after its victory over Jordan (97-75).
The Chinese team took third place and won the bronze medal after defeating the Philippines (87-59), while Japan came in fifth after defeating Iran (73-71).
New Zealand, Australia, China and the Philippines reserved their spots for the Asian teams qualifying for the 2024 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup to be held in Turkiye from June 29 to July 7, 2024.
The four teams join Egypt, Guinea, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, France, Germany, Argentina, the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, along with the host country Turkiye.
