Vienna: Austria has deployed 81 soldiers, including 10 women, to join the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) as part of a rotation and replacement operation for Austrian troops participating in the mission. Austria contributes approximately 165 peacekeepers to the UN initiative.
According to Emirates News Agency, Claudia Tanner, Austria’s Minister of Defence, bade farewell to the Austrian troops during a military ceremony, commending the contributions of the Austrian Armed Forces to peacekeeping missions. The minister stated that despite the tense situation in Lebanon, Austria’s military remains committed to promoting peace.
She also expressed her delight at the appointment of the first woman to lead the deployed military unit, considering it a testament to women’s ability to undertake and excel in any task.
