The Azerbaijani Embassy in Amman hosted an event Sunday evening to mark the national holiday of Azerbaijan and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Jordan. The event was attended by several distinguished individuals, including ministers, officials, ambassadors, journalists, and other guests. Azerbaijani Ambassador to Amman, Eldar Salimov, emphasized the two countries’ flourishing ties, which have cultivated shared interests in a variety of fields including trade, culture, sports, tourism, and defense. Selimov remarked that a strong basis for a new phase of the thirty-year diplomatic ties defined by friendship and solidarity has been laid by the leaders of the two nations exchanging visits and holding formal meetings. The envoy highlighted that the peaceful objectives, regional and global stability, and the principle of non-interference in other countries’ domestic affairs have served as the cornerstones of the cordial relations between Azerbaijan and Jordan. It is hoped that these ongoing ties would strengthen for the benefit of both countries. Selimov emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan’s Independence Day, which honors an important turning point in the nation’s history. The founding of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan on May 28, 1918, was a significant historical moment for the country, he remarked, noting that Azerbaijan regained its sovereignty and restored an independent state based on the traditions and ideals of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan despite having lost it for 23 months prior to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. By that point, he said, Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of Azerbaijan, had effectively led the country through trying and demanding times, saving it from civil war and the loss of independence. Under the direction of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has since made major advancements while ensuring security, stability, and development. As Jordan and Azerbaijan commemorated their 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Minister of State for Legal Affairs Nancy Nimroka praised the two countries’ cordial relationship. “These relationships have experienced impressive growth and development over the past three decades in a variety of areas, demonstrating the commitment of the leadership of both nations to nourish and deepen them thoroughly,” she said. Nimroka noted that the strong relations between the two countries are demonstrated by King Abdullah II and President Ilham Aliyev’s reciprocal visits and the various agreements and memoranda of understanding that have been signed since 2007 to advance cooperation in commerce, the economy, culture, and other areas. Additionally, constant collaboration on regional concerns and developments has been ongoing, notably with regard to the Palestinian issue. The minister praised the crucial part that both countries’ private sectors had played in advancing bilateral cooperation, expressing willingness to further fortify it and look into fresh possibilities.
