Batili: I listened carefully to the concerns of party representatives in Tripoli about the continuing political impasse, and their demands for elections.

A number of leaders and representatives of Libyan political parties have expressed their concern about the continuing state of political deadlock in the country.

This came during their meeting with the UN envoy, “Abdullah Batili” yesterday, Tuesday, in the capital, Tripoli.

“During the meeting, I stressed the great importance of political parties for a vibrant and democratic society,” Batili said. “I also urged the participants in the meeting to communicate with the 6 + 6 Committee, the House of Representatives and the High Council of State in order to communicate their observations on the draft electoral laws and contribute constructively to making those laws actionable.

In a series of tweets he posted on his Twitter account, the UN envoy added, β€œIt is the responsibility of everyone in Libya, including the political parties, to make every effort to move forward towards a comprehensive political settlement between the main parties in the country, and to hold peaceful and inclusive elections.” ).
