Gurugram: The 11th BRICS Energy Ministers' Meeting concluded with the adoption of the Joint Communiqu©, emphasizing the importance of national circumstances, development priorities, and energy pathways. The meeting, held under India's BRICS Chairship 2026, focused on strengthening cooperation in energy security, sustainability, innovation, resilient infrastructure, and capacity building.
According to Emirates News Agency, a significant outcome of the meeting was the launch of the BRICS Digital Centre of Excellence for Smart Grids and Energy Storage under the BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform. This centre aims to serve as a collaborative platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and the exchange of policy and regulatory best practices among BRICS countries.
The meeting also saw the adoption of the BRICS Guiding Principles on Smart Grids and Energy Storage. These principles recognize the importance of modern, resilient, and digitally enabled power systems in ensuring reliable and affordable energy access and the integration of renewable energy and emerging technologies.
The Joint Communiqu© highlighted energy security as a cornerstone of BRICS cooperation, emphasizing the need for diversified, resilient, and transparent energy systems and supply chains. The ministers reiterated that secure, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy is crucial for economic development, job creation, industrialization, and human dignity.
The ministers underscored the importance of balanced and diversified energy mixes, promoting cleaner and more efficient energy technologies, and cooperation in areas like renewable energy, biofuels, hydrogen, energy storage, and digitalization. They also reaffirmed the importance of affordable financing for these initiatives.
In support of future energy systems, the ministers backed the convening of the BRICS Youth Energy Summit and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration through the BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform. They expressed their commitment to continue cooperation under the Chairship of the People's Republic of China in 2027.
