BRICS expresses interests of global majority, says Russian presidential aide Ushakov

MOSCOW: Yury Ushakov, Russian presidential foreign policy aide, stressed that BRICS countries truly and practically express the interests of the Global Majority, guided by principles such as multi-level cooperation aimed at establishing a fairer multipolar world order and a model for equal state-to-state communication to find solutions to global challenges.

In an interview with TASS, following Russia’s assuming of the rotating presidency of the BRICS group in 2024, Ushakov underscored the Russian BRICS Presidency’s priorities, and prospects for BRICS development and expansion, as well as the group’s drive to create equal opportunities for all countries to develop.

He said that Russia’s BRICS Presidency will focus its efforts on ‘promoting the entire range of partnership and cooperation within the framework of the association on three key tracks – politics and security, the economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian ties. All these three guidelines are of fundamental and equal importance”, noting tha
t these have been identified as the priorities of the Russian Presidency, which has adopted the slogan of ‘Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security’.

‘The BRICS summit in Kazan on 22nd-24th October will be the key event of the Russian Presidency,’ he said, ‘Moreover, it will be the first BRICS summit following the group’s enlargement.’

Highlighting the group’s expansion to include 10 countries, Ushakov added, ‘The twofold increase in the number of BRICS members undoubtedly opens up vast prospects for the further strengthening of the role and authority of our association internationally.’
