Dubai:British jockey Jack Mitchell is set to participate in the UAE horse racing season starting on October 29, joining trainer Simon Crisford's stable shortly after achieving his first Group 1 victory.
According to Emirates News Agency, Mitchell secured his Group 1 win riding Saddadd in the Grosser Preis Von Baden in Germany, racing under the colors of the late Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Mitchell expressed enthusiasm for working with Simon Crisford, highlighting their successful past collaborations and his freelance role, which will involve riding for Crisford when needed.
Mitchell has limited experience racing in Dubai, having competed there only twice. His most recent appearance saw him finish seventh on German horse Sisfahan in the 2023 G2 Dubai Gold Cup. Despite this, Mitchell's recent Group 1 victory has bolstered his confidence for the upcoming UAE racing season and enhanced his reputation within British racing.
He has teamed up with top agent Carl Hodgson and will race with a minimum riding weight of 55kg. Mitchell has experience with both Arabians and Thoroughbreds and views the dirt track as a new challenge and an additional aspect of his development as a jockey.
