Phnom penh: King Norodom Sihamoni of the Kingdom of Cambodia welcomed Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. This meeting was part of the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC-2) in Cambodia, where delegation heads gathered to discuss global cooperation.
According to Emirates News Agency, Al Jarwan led the Council's delegation at the conference, which attracted parliamentary leaders from around the world. He emphasized the critical role of parliaments and parliamentary diplomacy in addressing international challenges, fostering dialogue, and promoting peace. Al Jarwan extended his gratitude to the Cambodian leadership, including King Norodom Sihamoni, Hun Sen, President of the Senate, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, for their commitment to peace and international collaboration.
Al Jarwan highlighted the increasing responsibility of parliaments as platforms for dialogue amid global conflicts and tensions. He underscored the importance of transforming differences into opportunities for understanding and cooperation, and implementing international commitments through actionable policies and initiatives.
Moreover, Al Jarwan pointed to the work of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, affiliated with the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace. This network, composed of parliaments from over 120 countries, is dedicated to promoting dialogue, tolerance, peace, and cooperation.
He concluded by noting that the conference's theme, 'Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity: Strengthening International Law and Resolving Conflicts Peacefully,' highlights the necessity for dialogue, reconciliation, and collective action. Al Jarwan affirmed that achieving peace is a shared responsibility that requires stronger partnerships and an effective role for parliamentary diplomacy.
In addition to the main conference, Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, met with Al Jarwan to explore ways of strengthening cooperation, joint action in support of tolerance and peace, and enhancing parliamentary diplomacy to foster closer ties and stability among peoples.
