China Advances Satellite Internet with Successful Arctic Route Test

Accra:The country has completed a near-operational application test of its satellite internet system along an Arctic shipping route. This initiative has led to advancements in cross-regional communications, remote medical consultations, and real-time scientific data transmission.

According to Emirates News Agency, this test was conducted by the research vessel Jidi, which is part of China's 16th Arctic expedition. The vessel's successful test demonstrates the system's capability to support operations in challenging environments.

The Polar Research Institute of China, along with other institutions, conducted the first network connectivity test linking the Arctic, Antarctic, and Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region. The video conference included participants from the Jidi, China's Qinling Station in Antarctica, Lhasa in the Xizang region, and the North Sea Bureau, all experiencing clear audio and video transmissions.

This test highlighted the satellite internet system's ability to deliver low-latency, high-bandwidth communications across distant regions. It verified the system's operational stability under harsh conditions, including extreme cold, high altitudes, and icy fog.

This progress is significant for China's efforts to address communication gaps in remote areas where traditional terrestrial networks fall short. Pang Zhihao, a senior space expert, explained that this near-operational application testing serves as an intermediary phase between experimental verification and formal deployment, preparing the system for routine use under real-world conditions.

The results confirmed that the Chinese-developed satellite and ground infrastructure can function reliably under extreme conditions, addressing long-standing communication challenges in polar regions.
