China Maintains 10th Position in Global Innovation Index 2026

Abu Dhabi:According to Emirates News Agency, China has secured the 10th place among 139 economies in the 2026 Global Innovation Index (GII), as reported by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). This marks the second consecutive year that China has held this position.

Leading the rankings are Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, the Republic of Korea, and Singapore. Over the past decade, China, along with India, Vietnam, T¼rkiye, the Philippines, Morocco, and Indonesia, has shown significant progress in climbing the ranks.

The report highlights that China hosts 3,466 deep-science startups, ranking second globally after the United States. Globally, more than 30,000 deep-science startups have been established since 2000, which is nearly ten times the number recorded in 2010. By 2025, these startups represent 16 percent of all venture-backed startups and have a collective value of US$7.6 trillion, marking a 23 percent increase from the previous year.

These startups are primarily involved in industries such as semiconductors, robotics, quantum computing, life sciences, space, energy, and advanced materials. The WIPO GII is published annually and assesses the innovation ecosystems of 139 economies using 79 different indicators.
