BEIJING: China’s job market remained stable in 2023 as authorities continuously supported vulnerable groups facing employment challenges.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security has announced a nationwide campaign, scheduled to run from late February to early April, to enhance employment services for migrant workers. As per a report by China Daily, this three-month initiative aims to provide 30 million job opportunities specifically tailored for this demographic.
The ministry will investigate employers’ hiring needs alongside migrants’ work preferences before introducing relevant government labour policies. Online and in-person job fairs in high-traffic areas like train stations and supermarkets will take place. Migrants will also be encouraged to find local work or launch startups in their home towns.
In 2023, the population of migrant workers saw slight year-on-year growth of 0.6 percent to roughly 297.5 million, and the group’s average monthly salary reached 4,780 yuan ($670), up 3.6 percent
year-on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
