Dubai: The Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) has announced its intention to contribute $100 million (AED367 million) to the Edge of Life campaign, aiming to extend life-saving nutrition support to five million children. The campaign, initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, seeks to collaborate with partners to mobilize significant resources in the fight against childhood hunger and malnutrition globally.
According to Emirates News Agency, CIFF's involvement underscores the humanitarian focus of the Edge of Life campaign, emphasizing its capacity to engage with international efforts to combat childhood hunger worldwide. This collaboration is part of a larger international initiative involving CIFF, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), and other partners, which aims to develop sustainable programs that protect children in underserved communities from hunger and malnutrition. Statistics indicate that one in four children under the age of five globally suffers from malnutrition.
Mohammad Al Gergawi, Secretary-General of MBRGI, highlighted that the Edge of Life campaign is inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to launch significant initiatives that expedite global efforts to eradicate hunger and malnutrition. Al Gergawi noted that CIFF's involvement in this Ramadan campaign demonstrates the immense potential of global humanitarian collaboration and its capacity to enhance efforts to empower vulnerable communities by providing sustainable nutrition access.
Sir Christopher Hohn, Founder and Chairman of CIFF, remarked, "Preventing children from dying of malnutrition should not be an objective - it should be a reality." He emphasized the need for change, stating, "We believe in a world where all children can be safe, healthy, and flourish, which means no child or their potential to grow should be lost to malnutrition."
The Edge of Life campaign continues to accept donations from institutions and individuals through various channels, including the campaign's website (www.edgeoflife.ae) and a dedicated call center (800 4999). Donations can also be made via bank transfers to the campaign's account with Emirates Islamic Bank (IBAN: AE940340003708472909222) and via SMS by sending 'LIFE' to specific numbers for different donation amounts.
Additional platforms for supporting the campaign include the DubaiNow app, YallaGive.com under the 'Donations' tab, and Dubai's community contributions platform Jood (Jood.ae).
