Colombia’s Embassy Move to Jerusalem Faces Condemnation from Arab League and Egypt

Jerusalem:Arab League The Arab League, Arab Parliament, and Egypt have expressed strong condemnation of Colombia's decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem. They argue that this move violates international law and pertinent UN resolutions, potentially undermining peace efforts and Palestinian rights.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Arab League issued a statement urging Colombia to reverse its decision, highlighting concerns about the legal status of East Jerusalem and the impact on peace prospects. It emphasized that unilateral actions to alter Jerusalem's status are deemed invalid under UN Security Council Resolutions 478 and 2334. The Arab League reiterated its support for a two-state solution, advocating for an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, condemned Colombia's decision as an infringement on Palestinian historical and national rights. He called on Colombia to reconsider and urged the international community and the UN Security Council to oppose any attempts to change Jerusalem's status or legitimize Israeli control.

In addition, Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a separate statement, asserting that Colombia's decision contravenes international law and relevant UN resolutions. Egypt reiterated its commitment to rejecting unilateral measures affecting Jerusalem and reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
