Abu dhabi: The death toll from last month's earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed to 5,069, with most casualties occurring in the worst-hit coastal state of La Guaira, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez. The announcement was made on Friday, reflecting the severe impact of the natural disaster.
According to Emirates News Agency, Rodriguez indicated that a total of 16,740 people have been injured as a result of the earthquakes. He also noted that 21,235 people have been accommodated at 107 temporary camps set up for those displaced by the disaster. In addition, 10,063 tonnes of food have been distributed to those affected in an effort to provide relief to the survivors.
The twin earthquakes, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck the South American nation on June 24, leaving a trail of devastation. The authorities continue to work on recovery and relief efforts as the country grapples with the aftermath of the seismic events.
