Demand for Summer Fruit Increases in AlUla; Mangoes, Grapes Lead Sales

Fruits have been in growing demand at the Farmers' Market in Al-Manshiyah Square from visitors eager to purchase the local produce that the governorate is known for in the summer. Mangoes of all varieties and local grapes recorded the highest sales. AlUla Governorate produces some 1,125 tons of mangoes annually on an area of 125 hectares where some 50,000 trees are planted. The area dedicated to fig, grape, and pomegranate farms is 348.96 hectares; the 139,584 trees yield about 3,140.66 tons. AlUla is also the original home of the Arabian moringa tree (al-yusr). Moringa farms in the governorate cover some 67.20 hectares; 53,761 trees produce 134.40 tons. The Royal Commission for AlUla launched the summer fruit season to coincide with the harvest season, helping many farmers achieve high production and sell large quantities. The Khayrat AlUla Seasons project aims to support farmers and productive families, and increase sustainable demand for organic fruits and other products, which will provide new opportu nities for economic diversity within the agricultural community and beyond.
