DEWA Celebrates Emirati Heritage with Rutab Season Exhibition

Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised the Rutab Season exhibition at Al Shera’a, its new headquarters, with the participation of a large number of employees from across its divisions. The three-day event celebrated Emirati heritage, national identity, and innovation.

According to Emirates News Agency, the exhibition was inaugurated by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, in the presence of Sammy Bousaba, President of AmCham Dubai, Cara Nazari, CEO of AmCham Dubai, DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents, and with the participation of Emirati maritime heritage researcher and media personality Juma Bin Thalith. A highlight of the exhibition was a prominent artwork by Mohammed Al-Loghani, featuring a model of Burj Khalifa made entirely from date pits.

Al Tayer emphasized the cultural significance of palm trees in Emirati society, noting their deep-rooted presence as symbols of generosity and belonging. He affirmed DEWA’s commitment to preserving these values within the work environment and passing them on to future generations. Al Tayer stated, “The Rutab Season exhibition reflects our commitment to presenting Emirati heritage in a way that combines tradition, innovation, and engagement.”

The exhibition offered a diverse showcase of date varieties from across the UAE, allowing employees to explore different types, compare tastes and flavors, and learn about the unique local varieties associated with each emirate and region. It also highlighted the importance of the date palm and its fruit in Emirati society, along with the social traditions and practices linked to them over generations.

Al-Loghani’s Burj Khalifa model, standing 310 centimeters tall, took three months and 10 days to complete and consists of 18,828 date pits. The model, bearing the number 1, symbolizes leadership, excellence, and the pursuit of first place. A UAE flag crowns its peak, embodying the connection between Emirati heritage, national identity, and one of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks.

The exhibition included interactive elements such as a photography corner, games, and an information section where employees could view and taste different date varieties.
