Discussion status of UNICEF-funded water and sanitation projects

A meeting in Sana’a on Tuesday chaired by Deputy Minister of Water and Environment Haneen Al-Duraib discussed the level of implementation of what was agreed between the Ministry of Water and UNICEF.

The meeting, which included the Chairman of the Rural Water Projects Authority, Adel Saleh Bader, the Head of the UNICEF Department of Water and Environmental Sanitation, George Tabal, and the organization’s Water and Sanitation Specialist, Anis Al Arashi, reviewed the status of the projects included in the Ministry of Water and Environment plan signed with UNICEF 2023 and it had been announced previously and it had been agreed to speed up contractual procedures to begin implementation.

The meeting addressed the funding situation for the implementation of the Jabal Maran area water project in Sa’ada governorate, which will be implemented with the joint support of the Ministry of Finance and UNICEF, and agreed to accelerate the procedures for the approval of funding by UNICEF to parallel the pace of implementation of the part of the Emergency Central Development Interventions Unit in the Ministry of Finance.

The meeting approved the opening of the Jabal Maran area Water Project over the coming week to ensure the benefit of the work carried out and access to service for the beneficiaries.

The meeting reviewed the need for sanitation projects included in the 2023 plan for 14 regions, representing the centers of the districts and secondary cities most affected and most in need, and it was agreed to start implementation procedures according to the available funds and according to priority.

The Meeting also approved the updating of the status of the remaining projects included in the Joint Plan and the follow-up of their first implementation by the Ministry of Water and Environment specialists and UNICEF.

The meeting stressed the importance of the partnership between the Ministry of Water and UNICEF and of promoting and developing it in order to achieve sustainable development of water and sanitation projects.
