Dubai:Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is preparing to introduce the first integrated smart monitoring system specifically designed for delivery motorcycles. This initiative aims to advance road safety and ensure greater compliance with regulations through the use of advanced technologies and smart data.
According to Wam, the new system will aid delivery companies in managing their fleets more effectively by utilizing real-time operational data to drive decision-making and improve service quality. Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at RTA, highlighted the system's components, which include a smart digital platform, IoT-enabled monitoring devices, and advanced cameras on delivery motorcycles. These technologies will collect and analyze data on driving behaviors such as speed, sudden acceleration, harsh braking, and route information, which will enhance operational performance tracking and the detection of unsafe practices.
Al Ramsi emphasized the proactive, data-driven approach of the system, developed in cooperation with Dubai Police General Command and other relevant entities, to balance operational efficiency with safety and compliance requirements. The platform is expected to provide delivery companies with advanced operational indicators, enabling them to upgrade fleet management systems and guide training and awareness programs based on real data and precise performance indicators. This effort aims to foster a culture of safe riding and reinforce compliance with traffic regulations.
Initially, the installation of monitoring devices will be optional until the end of the first half of 2027, allowing companies time to prepare technically and operationally. After this transitional period, implementation will become mandatory. Throughout the transition, RTA will collaborate with delivery companies and other stakeholders to ensure readiness for the new system requirements.
This initiative aligns with RTA's strategy to leverage smart technologies and advanced data for improved oversight and compliance, enhancing the governance of the growing delivery sector. It supports regulatory efforts to elevate safety and security standards in delivery operations and reinforces Dubai's status as a leader in smart, safe, and sustainable mobility.
