Ebola Rapidly Spreading Beyond Eastern Congo Epicentre: Africa CDC

Kinshasa: The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reported that the Ebola outbreak, which is the fastest-growing on record in eastern Congo, is rapidly spreading beyond its initial epicentre.

According to Emirates News Agency, during its weekly briefing, the Africa CDC indicated that while new cases and deaths have declined in Ituri province, which is the epicentre of the outbreak, there has been a sharp increase in cases in the neighbouring provinces of North Kivu and Haut-U©l©. The latest government figures released on Thursday reveal that there have been 6,843 reported cases, including 3,310 deaths. Ituri province remains the hardest hit with over 5,400 cases, while North Kivu has seen more than 1,000 cases since the outbreak was declared in May.
