Moscow: The economic damage from infectious diseases in Russia in 2025 amounted to 1,341.7 billion rubles ($18.2 billion), according to data from the Russian Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor), TASS reported.
According to Emirates News Agency, the significant economic impact was attributed to 30 infectious diseases, with acute upper respiratory tract infections requiring the largest investment for treatment. The costs for these infections were almost 1,167 billion rubles ($15.8 billion), indicating a substantial financial burden on the healthcare system. Additionally, chickenpox and acute intestinal infections were also major contributors to the economic damage.
The report highlights the financial strain infectious diseases continue to impose on Russia's economy, underscoring the need for effective public health strategies and investments to mitigate these impacts in the future.
