Egypt Poised to Host International Conference on Gaza Reconstruction

Cairo: Egypt has announced its preparedness to host an international conference focused on early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty underlined the urgent need to halt Israeli aggression against Palestinians during a recent meeting with Christophe Bigot, the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process.

According to Emirates News Agency, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm stance against the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland. He also highlighted Egypt’s collaborative efforts with Qatar and the US aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitating the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region. Abdelatty pointed out the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza caused by the ongoing obstructions to aid access.

Abdelatty further expressed Egypt’s eagerness to convene the international conference on Gaza’s reconstruction once a ceasefire is established. He also drew attention to the escalating tensions in the West Bank, cautioning about the severe consequences of continued Israeli military actions in the area. He condemned the relentless attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians and underscored the necessity of halting such violence.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also expressed optimism about hosting a conference dedicated to achieving a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. He emphasized the need for broadening international recognition of Palestine and establishing a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Abdelatty considers this the sole avenue to secure lasting peace, security, and stability in the region.
