Abu Dhabi: The International Astronomical Centre has projected that Eid al-Adha will be observed on Friday, 6th June, in most Islamic countries based on the anticipated sighting of the Dhu al-Hijjah crescent moon. The centre announced that the crescent moon, which marks the start of the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is expected to be observed on Tuesday, 27th May.
According to Emirates News Agency, Engineer Mohammad Shawkat Odeh, who is the Director of the Abu Dhabi-based International Astronomical Centre, stated that the crescent moon might be visible with the aid of telescopes in parts of Central and Western Asia, as well as most regions of Africa and Europe. Furthermore, he noted that in large areas across the Americas, the crescent could be visible to the naked eye.
These astronomical assessments suggest that Wednesday, 28th May, will likely be the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah. Consequently, this would make Friday, 6th June, the probable date for the commencement of Eid al-Adha celebrations in
many Islamic nations.
