Dubai: The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has announced the closure of submissions for the Emirates Energy Award, marking strong participation from global entrants across various categories. The award, aimed at recognizing innovation and excellence in sustainable energy, has expanded its reach to include new regions beyond the Middle East and North Africa, reinforcing its position as a global platform.
According to Emirates News Agency, the award's Technical Committee has commenced the evaluation of applications. The evaluation is based on specific criteria that focus on innovation, energy efficiency, the promotion of renewable energy, and the economic, social, and environmental impacts of projects. This initiative supports the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The evaluation period coincides with the release of the Emissions Gap Report 2024 by the United Nations Environment Programme, which stresses the urgent need for collective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly by 2030 and 2035.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of the Emirates Energy Award, stated that the award is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It aims to support sustainable development by raising awareness of the importance of clean and renewable energy sources. The award's growing global participation helps achieve net-zero goals and recognizes best practices in sustainable energy.
Since its inception, the Emirates Energy Award has seen broad international participation, reflecting its global influence. With the application period now closed, the evaluation stage highlights the commitment of institutions and individuals worldwide to develop sustainable solutions for the future. Al Tayer emphasized the award's vital role in supporting net-zero efforts in line with international initiatives addressing climate change.
Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, highlighted that the evaluation process will adhere to international standards, focusing on projects that effectively reduce carbon footprints and drive clean energy transitions. The Emirates Energy Award has become a leading global platform for sharing knowledge and expertise, with a central role in promoting clean energy and innovation to tackle global environmental challenges.
The Emirates Energy Award features 10 categories, emphasizing creativity, innovation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy promotion. Categories include Energy Efficiency in both public and private sectors, Large and Small Energy Projects, Circular Economy, and Large and Small Solar Energy Projects, among others.
