Emirates Implements New Safety Rules for Power Bank Usage Onboard

Dubai: Emirates has introduced new safety regulations regarding the usage of power banks onboard its flights. Starting tomorrow, 1st October 2025, the airline prohibits the use of any power bank during flights, even though in-seat charging is available on all Emirates aircraft. Customers are advised to fully charge their devices before boarding, particularly for long-haul flights.

According to Emirates News Agency, a power bank is a portable device that supplies power to electronic gadgets like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and cameras. While customers are still allowed to bring one power bank onboard, they must adhere to specific guidelines. The power banks cannot be used to charge devices or be charged using the aircraft’s power source while in the cabin.

Emirates has outlined precise regulations for carrying power banks onboard:

– Passengers may carry one power bank under 100 Watt Hours.

– Power banks cannot be used to charge personal devices onboard.

– Charging power banks using the aircraft’s power supply is not allowed.

– All transported power banks must display capacity rating information.

– Power banks must be stored in seat pockets or bags under the seat rather than in the overhead stowage bin.

– Power banks remain prohibited in checked luggage, as per existing rules.

Following an extensive safety review, Emirates aims to minimize risks associated with power banks on flights. The increasing use of power banks has led to more lithium battery-related incidents in the aviation industry. By implementing these regulations, Emirates seeks to reduce these risks, ensuring that power banks are stored in easily accessible locations, allowing cabin crew to respond quickly in case of a fire.

Emirates emphasizes that safety is a fundamental aspect of its operations, continuously working to enhance safety standards to protect both customers and staff.
