ENOC and Dubai Municipality Partner to Transform Used Cooking Oil into Biodiesel

Dubai:ENOC Group and Dubai Municipality have entered into a partnership to explore cleaner fuel alternatives by collecting and converting used cooking oil into biodiesel. The agreement, observed by Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and Hussain Sultan Lootah, Group Chief Executive Officer of ENOC Group, aims to support Dubai's circular economy.

According to Wam, the collaboration focuses on developing a system for the collection of used cooking oil from restaurants, businesses, and households across Dubai. This oil will be converted into biodiesel at ENOC's Jebel Ali plant. Dubai Municipality will oversee the collection process, ensuring responsible recovery and preventing improper disposal, while ENOC will leverage its expertise in fuel production.

The partnership aligns with the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031, aiming to enhance sustainable waste management and promote the transition towards a circular economy. By transforming used cooking oil into a resource for local biodiesel production, the initiative seeks to retain value within the economy and encourage sustainable consumption practices.

Ali Khalid bin Zayed Al Falasi of ENOC Group highlighted the importance of expanding access to cleaner fuels and maximizing resource efficiency. Eng. Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi of Dubai Municipality emphasized the role of innovative solutions in supporting sustainable energy alternatives and reducing environmental impact.

The proposed system will create a direct link between the recovery of used cooking oil and ENOC's biodiesel production, offering a local pathway for waste conversion into energy. ENOC's ongoing investment in biodiesel production capabilities further supports the adoption of alternative fuels in the UAE.
