ERC Provides US$ 300,000 in Support of Ethiopia Cardiac Centre

Addis ababa: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has announced a financial contribution of $300,000 to the Ethiopia Cardiac Centre to support its efforts in providing medical care and performing surgeries for children.

According to Emirates News Agency, the announcement was made during an official visit to the Centre's headquarters in central Addis Ababa by a delegation that included Mohamed Salem Al Rashdi, UAE Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; Major General (Ret.) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run; and Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent. The announcement coincides with the Zayed Charity Run, scheduled to take place tomorrow in Addis Ababa.

Al Mazrouei highlighted that the financial support would bolster the centre's efforts in treating children and contribute to the mission of the charity run, inspired by the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He emphasized that this initiative underscores the ERC's commitment to enhancing healthcare initiatives, particularly in treating heart disease among children, thereby improving the quality of life for vulnerable groups and aligning with the UAE's vision of fostering a healthier and more compassionate world.

Hiruy Ali Endries, CEO of the Centre, expressed his gratitude to the United Arab Emirates, represented by the ERC, for their significant support. He noted that this contribution would advance the centre's efforts to treat patients and provide necessary healthcare, ultimately improving the lives of those in need. He added that since its inception, the facility has treated around 24,000 patients, performing surgeries for both children and adults. The Centre also accommodates patients from neighboring countries, handling between 30 to 40 patients daily, with many more on a waiting list for consultations.
