Etisalat UAE and Universities Unveil 6G Network Engineering Framework

Abu Dhabi:Etisalat UAE, in collaboration with Khalifa University of Science and Technology and New York University Abu Dhabi, has introduced a new engineering framework for 6G networks utilizing centimetre-wave (cmWave) spectrum. This initiative positions the UAE as a significant contributor to the global 6G development landscape, with the technology's launch anticipated in 2030.

According to Emirates News Agency, the framework is both peer-reviewed and operator-grade, providing essential methodologies for designing future 6G networks. It includes coverage planning, capacity dimensioning, and performance management strategies crucial as 6G standards evolve. The research leverages advanced ELAA antenna architectures and spatial multiplexing to address cmWave propagation challenges, aiming to enhance network capacity.

Dr. Bayan Sharif from Khalifa University highlighted the role of academia-industry partnerships in accelerating the practical application of cutting-edge research. Marwan Bin Shakar of Etisalat UAE pointed out that the framework demonstrates a clear path from theoretical concepts to practical network design, emphasizing sustainable and cost-effective infrastructure. Vice Chancellor Fabio Piano of NYU Abu Dhabi stressed the strengthened impact of their research on wireless communications through this partnership.

Published in the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society, this validated framework supports the transition to 6G connectivity. It aims to evolve existing networks toward 6G, ensuring 5G coverage parity while tripling capacity, reinforcing the UAE's leadership in digital innovation.
