Federal Authority Waives Overstay Fines Amid Airspace Closure

Abu dhabi: The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has announced a significant policy decision to waive fines for individuals unable to travel due to the recent airspace closure and temporary suspension of flights in the region. This exemption relieves affected travelers from financial penalties associated with delayed departures caused by extraordinary circumstances beyond their control.

According to Emirates News Agency, the decision impacts a wide range of travelers, including those holding visit visas, tourist visas, exit permits, and residents who have canceled their residency permits in preparation for leaving the country. The waiver applies to fines incurred on or after February 28, 2026, allowing these individuals to address their legal status without facing additional financial burdens.

The Federal Authority emphasized that the measure is a response to uncontrollable circumstances preventing travelers from departing on scheduled dates due to flight suspensions or rescheduling. This initiative is a testament to the UAE's humanitarian approach, showing empathy towards the exceptional conditions faced by affected travelers and visitors.

Specialized teams at airports and Customer Happiness Centres across the UAE continue to work under emergency and business continuity plans. In coordination with relevant authorities, they are facilitating procedures related to delayed or rescheduled flights and providing necessary support to those impacted.

The Authority reiterated the UAE's commitment to its humanitarian values, emphasizing tolerance and solidarity. It assured travelers and visitors of ongoing support during such exceptional circumstances, reinforcing the UAE's reputation as a safe and welcoming destination capable of managing challenges with efficiency and compassion.

The Authority urged all affected individuals to stay informed through official channels regarding updates and regulatory measures related to the airspace closure. It reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining high levels of readiness and responsiveness to ensure continuous service and support under all conditions.
