Fujairah: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the Fujairah 2025 World Taekwondo Cadet Championships commenced with young athletes from 93 countries participating. The event showcases talents aged 12 to 14 and will continue until May 14. According to Emirates News Agency, the World Taekwondo Federation's council convened in Fujairah to discuss recent developments in taekwondo and future strategies for expanding the sport's global reach. Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, emphasized that hosting this championship aligns with the Crown Prince's vision to position Fujairah as a global sports hub. Dr. Choue Chung-won, President of the World Taekwondo Federation, expressed satisfaction with Fujairah as the host, noting the UAE's infrastructure and support for sports. He highlighted the championship's significance as the largest of its kind, with participation from over 800 a thletes. Dr. Choue also remarked on the event's role in discovering young talent and promoting taekwondo internationally. Nader Abu Shawish, Tournament Director, expressed pride in hosting the event, calling it a milestone for both the local and global taekwondo community. He emphasized the opportunity for young Emirati athletes to compete against top international talents, enhancing their skills and growth. The tournament also aims to offer an exceptional sporting experience, reflecting the UAE's dedication to youth development and sporting excellence. The World Taekwondo Federation's council also discussed future host cities for championships through 2027 and selected cities for the Grand Prix series in 2026 and 2027, part of the qualification path for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Cities were chosen based on their organisational experience and proposals submitted to the council.
