GCC Secretary General: Four Decades of Integration and Overcoming Challenges

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi stated that over the past four decades, the member states have successfully overcome obstacles and achieved various forms of integration, thanks to the wise guidance of the Council’s founding leaders and its current leaders.

‘This is driven by their belief in the noble goals of the GCC’s blessed journey and in what serves the welfare of their peoples and the preservation of their security and stability,’ Albudaiwi said.

He made these remarks during a seminar organized by the Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Kuwait Diplomatic Institute, titled ‘The GCC: Four Decades of Achievements Towards Integration and Facing Challenges,’ held today at the institute’s headquarters in Kuwait City.

During the seminar, Albudaiwi shed light on the historical foundations and motivations that led to the establishment of the GCC, pointing out that the ultimate goal is to unify efforts in addressing regional and global challenges while continuing the path
of GCC integration across all levels.

Albudaiwi added that the founding leaders were keen to establish a unified Gulf entity that reflects their vision of achieving comprehensive integration and interconnectedness among the six countries in all areas, continuously enhancing and developing the Council’s achievements in line with future changes and circumstances.

He noted that the geographical location of the member states has placed them in a dynamic environment filled with numerous regional and international challenges, necessitating collective efforts to strengthen and unify all GCC initiatives to overcome these challenges.

He explained that the directives of the Council’s leaders have always aimed to remove all obstacles to achieve their people’s welfare and ensure they live in a safe and stable environment.

‘The member states have successfully made significant progress in integration across various fields,’ he stressed.

Albudaiwi also mentioned several current and future joint Gulf projects and t
heir positive impact on the peoples of the member states and the relationships between the Council and countries and organizations worldwide.

He concluded his remarks at the seminar by providing a detailed account of the political stature the GCC has achieved regionally and internationally, as well as its prominent economic status, citing examples of many countries and regional groups seeking to strengthen their relationships and partnerships with the Council across all levels.

At the end of the seminar, he expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Kuwait Diplomatic Institute staff for their efforts in establishing and training a diplomatic generation capable of working efficiently in all regional and global diplomatic fields. Moreover, he lauded the seminar participants’ level of political awareness, which they demonstrated through their questions and interventions, enriching the discussion.
