Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi met here yesterday with US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Albudaiwi said that the events in the region, particularly the serious Israeli violations of Palestinian and Lebanese territories, require immediate and decisive action from the international community and influential global powers, to put an end to these violations, protect innocent civilian lives, and uphold international laws, charters, and norms. He stressed that the current Israeli escalation poses a great threat to regional security and stability, cautioning about the potential dire consequences of this volatile situation. He also urged immediate and effective action to halt the escalation and pursue an immediate ceasefire, and complying with the pertinent international resolutions. The two officials also discussed the agenda for the upcoming joint ministerial meeting for the GCC-US strategic partnership, which will be held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's high-level week. The meeting will focus on various regional issues, including the situation in Gaza, as well as on strengthening the strategic partnership between the GCC and the US. Source: Saudi Press Agency
