Lake volta: A boat capsized on Lake Volta in northeastern Ghana, resulting in the tragic loss of 15 lives, as confirmed by maritime authorities on Sunday.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) reported that among the victims, 11 were children aged between two and 14 years. The incident saw four adults survive the tragedy.
In a statement, the GMA announced that a specialised team, comprising naval personnel, has been dispatched to investigate the exact cause of the accident. The authority emphasized that it plans to establish a high-level investigation committee in collaboration with the transport ministry. Additionally, a sustained lakeside safety enforcement operation will be launched to ensure compliance with passenger limits and the mandatory use of life jackets.
