Conakry: Political parties supporting Guinea's President Mamady Doumbouya have secured a majority in the country's legislative elections, the electoral authority announced on Friday. The pro-Doumbouya Generation for Modernity and Development (GMD) coalition has significantly outperformed its competitors based on the provisional results.
According to Emirates News Agency, the final allocation of Guinea's 147 legislative seats is still being finalized. However, the current data indicates that the GMD coalition and its allies have already claimed at least 100 seats. This strong showing highlights the coalition's dominant position in the country's political landscape.
The voter turnout for the legislative elections was recorded at 52.87 percent. Simultaneously, communal elections, which determine local government bodies, saw a turnout of 58.51 percent. These elections were held concurrently on Sunday, reflecting the active political engagement of the Guinean populace.
