Dubai: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has launched the Season of Wulfa, an initiative aimed at celebrating distinctive cultural occasions and Emirati values. The initiative is designed to showcase local heritage, highlight values intrinsic to Emirati society, and reinforce Dubai's position as a global destination promoting tolerance and cultural respect.
According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), will lead and oversee the initiative, which will feature events and activities throughout the season. The initiative encompasses events and initiatives from the 15th of Sha'ban (Hag Al Leila) through the Holy Month of Ramadan and Eid, embodying traditions and cultural identity resonant with the spirituality and rhythm of life in the UAE.
The Season of Wulfa highlights the core pillars of reflection, connection, and blessing, expressed through customs steeped in social and spiritual meanings. These customs foster harmony and cordiality among individuals and communities, narrowing cultural boundaries. The initiative aims to raise community awareness of the importance of preserving cultural practices, strengthening the sense of belonging, and supporting activities that highlight culture's role in reinforcing social cohesion.
Featuring over 50 initiatives and events across more than 30 locations in Dubai, the Season of Wulfa will be implemented in collaboration with government entities, the private sector, and local communities. It offers a cultural and humanitarian platform appealing to citizens, residents, and visitors worldwide, boosting cultural exchange and highlighting human values while celebrating deep-rooted traditions.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan affirmed the importance of innovative ideas and creative initiatives that bring individuals closer to their values, identity, and community. He stated that the initiative celebrates the UAE's community ethos while preserving cultural heritage, enhancing belonging and harmony among community members, and reinforcing a cohesive spirit.
H.H. Sheikha Latifa emphasized that the events of the Season of Wulfa, including Hag Al Leila, Ramadan, Eid Al-Fitr, and Eid Al-Adha, are rooted in humanitarian values fostering positive interaction and harmonious coexistence. She noted that the Season of Wulfa focuses on building bonds and creating shared moments, reflecting the essence of Emirati culture through creative ideas blending local heritage with contemporary creativity.
She highlighted Dubai's approach of placing cultural and social heritage at its priorities' core, serving as a foundation for shaping the future. Guided by the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai has established itself as a model of cultural harmony and a meeting point for diverse cultures, with nearly 200 nationalities contributing to Dubai's story.
She concluded that the Season of Wulfa seeks to reinforce community values while renewing their expression in ways that resonate with the present and inspire future generations. The season's programme will feature innovative cultural experiences that reflect the true meaning of Wulfa - familiarity, closeness, and community - strengthening social ties and showcasing cultural heritage to future generations.
