HIGHLANDER Summit Series to Debut in Ras Al Khaimah with New Hiking Challenges

Ras Al Khaimah:HIGHLANDER, the Middle East's leading long-distance hiking event, is set to return to Ras Al Khaimah from November 21-22, 2026, with an exciting new offering — the HIGHLANDER Summit Series. This event introduces a fresh experience, focusing on shorter yet steeper hiking routes that traverse the scenic wadis, mountain villages, and trails below Jebel Yabana, designed to bring adventurers closer to the summits.

According to Wam, the Summit Series will be held for the first time in the UAE, beginning and ending at the Bear Grylls Adventure Camp. The event will navigate the rugged terrain of the Hajar Mountains around Jebel Jais, emphasizing elevation and challenging trails. HIGHLANDER, which originated in Croatia in 2017, has become a prominent global hiking series with over 30 events in more than 20 countries annually.

The Summit Series offers two formats for participants aged 18 and above, catering to varied experience and fitness levels. The HIGHLANDER 1DAY format covers 7km on November 22, featuring a 400m elevation gain and loss, while the HIGHLANDER 2DAY extends approximately 15km over two days, including an overnight camp and higher elevation gains.

Participants will encounter non-technical but demanding routes that require good stamina and careful navigation. The 1DAY route includes a steep climb and panoramic balcony trail, whereas the 2DAY route involves village trails, stone steps, and optional hikes to high viewpoints. The event emphasizes a 'Leave No Trace' philosophy, encouraging hikers to preserve the natural environment.

Safety remains a priority, with HIGHLANDER marshals and first-aid support available along the clearly marked routes. The event aims to boost adventure tourism in Ras Al Khaimah, showcasing the region's natural beauty and fostering a connection with the local community.
